Details: The faculty-led TEDxSJSU student organization at San José State University was in need of updating all marketing and communications materials in conjunction with their Spring 2015 capstone event, Diversity = ?
As a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, TED is a global community that believes passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and, ultimately, the world. TEDx events are planned and coordinated independently, bringing a TED-like experience to local communities.
The "puzzle X" identity was created to reflect the event's theme of diversity. Utilizing the style guide requirements established by TED, a new website, tedxsjsu.org (now defunct), was created and social media accounts were established; printed items, such as event posters, fundraiser fliers, and the event's program, also utilized the visual theme and guidelines.
Unique to the Spring 2015 TEDxSJSU campaign was the temporary chalk spraying of stenciled sidewalk signs throughout SJSU's campus. This guerrilla marketing tactic proved to be highly effective--within 48 hours of the signs' execution, ticket sales spiked and the event sold out.
